Beta 1 - Current Known Issues

The first Beta release of BeTrayed! is rather rough and and such suffers from a few annoying 'features' - the next Beta release will be available soon which should correct known problems:

If you're having a problem which isn't noted here please don't hesitate to email me or report it via the forum.

1) The icons placed in the System Tray (Notification Area) tend to be of low quality.
This is due to BeTrayed! generally using the first icon it finds in the executable you're trying to run or that is associated with the file type for the shortcut you're adding to the Tray. Often this icon is not the most appropriate for the colour depth of your screen nor of the correct size for System Tray use - Windows does its best to make the icon 'fit', but the result is rarely perfect.

Generally, System Tray icons are 16x16 pixels big and have 256 colours (8bit colour)

Currently, there are a couple of ways to get better quality icons:

Specify a specific icon number to use from the executable file
This is obviously only possible if the executable actually has more than one icon embedded in it and it's of an appropriate size and colour depth

Specify a particular icon file to use
This is the preferred method and produces the best results. Using freely available software, you can extract particular icons out of existing executable files you have or, alternatively, create you own - as long as they are 256 colours and 16x16 pixels big, they'll probably look fine in the Tray.

While there are plenty of free icon editors around, their quality is variable - so if you're willing to spend some of your hard-earned cash, I suggest having a look at Icon Forge, available from http://www.cursorarts.com/ca_if.html
